As President and CEO of the Arlington (Texas) Convention & Visitors Bureau she led the destination out of the effects of September 11 with a new brand and helped it into an epic transformation. As President and CEO of the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau she branded the city creating a national convention market for its newly expanded convention center and an international travel market for the city. As Vice President Sales and Marketing for the Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau she improved occupancy during the notoriously hot summer months by working with the resorts to make it a hot meeting deal. As Director of Sales & Marketing for the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau, she helped the tourism industry recover from the 1989 Bay Area earthquake and compete with a burgeoning East Bay Area. Add ten high performance years in sales with Hilton hotels, Disneyland Hotel and The Hotel Queen Mary, several years owning and operating Northwest Conventions, Inc. and managing political campaigns, and you have the makings of a unique and valuable perspective.
DiMario currently serves on the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Foundation Board of Trustees, formerly served on the DMAI Board of Directors and just completed yearlong work as one of eight DMAI appointments to the DMAI/IAAM Joint Liaison Council to develop Best Practices for CVBs and Convention Centers. She previously served on the Board of Directors and is Past President of the Western Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Association of Convention Operations Managers (ACOM) Board of Directors, the Association of Convention Marketing Executives (ACME) Advisory Council, the Dallas/Fort Worth Area Tourism Council and Texas Tourism Industry Association committees. DiMario has served on a variety of educational development committees for both DMAI and WACVB organizations and task forces, most recently the DMAI Convention Spending Task Force.
DiMario has been a featured speaker, panelist, workshop leader and/or trainer at DMAI, WACVB, ACOM, ACME and SCMP conventions, at Washington, California, Arizona, Oregon and Texas State Tourism Conventions, conducted a three-day work session for the British Association of Cities and Towns, keynoted the Puerto Rico CVB Annual Members Education Program, produced one of the top-selling DMOU interviews and CDs with Bill Geist - "The Keys to Branding Your Destination" and provided consulting services and sales and marketing evaluations and training for San Diego North CVB, Santa Barbara CVB, Santa Cruz CVB, Bryan-College Station CVB, Huntington Beach, CVB, Rochester, N.Y. CVB and SMG, Inc. convention and arena facility management. Speaking topics include: Change in the Workplace, New Age Sales, Branding 101, Matchmakers, Crisis Recovery and ReBound and Positioning and Re-positioning to Score Big in the Marketplace. Industry and community honors include the Soroptomist’s International Woman of Distinction Award in Economic Development, the JAYCEES Belle Lowe Woman of the Year, Association for Convention Operations Management (ACOM) Executive Excellence Award, Wings Beneath Our Wings Award Black Managers Association of Long Beach, California Governor Pete Wilson’s appointment as a delegate to the 1996 White House Conference on Tourism and California Woman of the Year 1996, 54th Assembly District. DiMario holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Central Washington State University in Washington State, is a Vietnam War-era Air Force veteran, a member of Rotary and married to Joe DiMario. |
